Welcome to our RCVS Accredited Practice
Most of us see our pets as members of the family and like every member of the family we want to be sure that they receive only the best medical treatment possible. How can we be sure this is what they are receiving?
The RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) have formed something called the Practice Standards Scheme which is a voluntary quality assurance programme. To be accredited, practices must pass a rigorous inspection which is carried out by an experienced and independent veterinary surgeon. Areas covered include hygiene; health and safety; the facilities and equipment; staff training and other criteria.
Thanks to this, the RCVS can offer reassurance that those practice premises which it accredits as part of the Practice Standards Scheme meet these strict standards.
The Meopham Veterinary Surgery has passed an independent inspection from the RCVS and is now proud to be part of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme as a Small Animal Accredited General Practice.
What does this mean for you?
An RCVS accreditation means peace of mind for you, quality care for your animals, as well as regular inspection for the practice.
A few of the criteria are listed below:
- Meeting with Core Standards including a range of legal and health and safety requirements covering the premises, equipment, client care and employees.
- Having a 24 hour emergency service available for patients at our own surgery with our own veterinary surgeons.
- Having staff on hand to monitor critical patients overnight if required
- Having access to laboratory facilities for diagnostic testing
- Having a system for monitoring the outcomes of surgery and treatments
- Showing an ongoing commitment to education and training of staff
- Keeping premises clean and well maintained
- Having procedures to allow estimates of treatment costs and gain consent for procedures undertaken
- Having appropriately trained staff for procedures undertaken in the practice
